Lately there has been a lot of media attention on lead poisoning and toy recalls. But the threat of lead toxicity isn't nearly as dramatic as it once was.

In the 1970s, recognition of the dangers of lead-based paint led to federal laws to phase out lead exposure by reducing levels in paint, gasoline and plumbing fixtures.
