With a finger to her lips indicating silence, Petronella May leads visitors into the lovingly prepared nursery in her lakeside home for a quick, quiet, unobtrusive peek at her babies.

They're so cute - and so furry and web-footed and clawed - as all five squirm about, all trying at the same time to get their noses into a big bowl of water. The 8-week-old river otters' "crib" is actually an open-topped wooden enclosure within a room at May's home on Lake of the Hills near Eudora in western DeSoto County.
