"I really don't know how it came about," said Dr. Fred Trexler speaking of the poem "The Night Before Christ" that he wrote 41 years ago. Trexler recalls a night before Christmas while he was serving as pastor at Concord Baptist Church in Macon, Miss.

"I just felt led to write." What appeared on paper was like nothing he had written before or since. Trexler's long poem uses cadence and rhythm similar to that of the still-popular "The Night Before Christmas" written in 1823.
