In Atlanta a few days ago, Krishna Bharat, the founder of Google News, thanked American newspapers for providing so much great local content to the world's largest search engine.

"Google is not a newspaper," said the man who has made a fortune and changed the global media environment by figuring out how to use computers to scrape news from sources such as commercialappeal.com every day, index the content with 4,500 newspapers and news Web sites, then deliver it free in 18 languages to computers on every continent.
