Summary


From their first hit, the over-the-top orchestral pop ballad "Lady," Chicago arena rock band Styx have always had a strong theatrical undercurrent to their music.

One of the band's biggest albums, 1981's Paradise Theater , was partly homage to a stately Windy City movie palace. A few years later, it was their dramatic flair that almost sank the group for good when Styx presented Kilroy Was Here , an ambitious, sci-fi- themed concept album with accompanying stage show and short film. Remembered today chiefly for spawning the kitsch masterpiece "Mr. Roboto," the project was hugely expensive, not very successful, and it broke up the band for the first time in 1984.
