Summary
For a while, their family wondered whether Ann Faulkner and her husband, Ivon, were ever going to be parents. After completing a degree in accounting, Ann returned to a vocational school, training three years to become an aircraft mechanic. The couple had their first child in their late 20s. Then, they had one every year until the family of seven was complete. Meeting the needs of five children, each born just a year apart, was challenging. It taught Ann the need to be highly organized. And being organized eventually allowed her time for other things she enjoys and believes in, like community service projects. Ann and her husband teach black history seminars to students of all ages at the Benjamin L. Hooks Library, the National Civil Rights Museum and other places in the Memphis area. They also support their children as they complete their Eagle Scout projects, and Ivon and the kids are tending to a garden where the family has planted beans, kale, grapes, tomatoes and more. The family is temporarily a little smaller than usual, as their oldest son takes a break from college to complete a two-year mission trip to France for the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. But Ann and her husband stay busy as they gear up for Ivon's political campaign to become state senator for District 31. Ann, who currently works in aircraft heavy maintenance production planning and scheduling, has been with FedEx for 28 years. She hopes to return to school in a few years and eventually open her own community-minded business, helping Memphis teens learn about potential career options from mentors. She recently answered questions from Midsouthmoms.com:
