8th-Grader's Victory Spells Travel to D.C. -- Desoto Pupil Set for Nat'l Bee

Summary


In 88 days, two area eighth-graders who have proven themselves the best spellers in their respective lands will compete against each other, as well as master wordsmiths from across the country, in Washington at the largest spelling bee in the nation.

Collin McLeod won the Memphis-Shelby County bee with "minatory" Feb. 6, and on Saturday, Patrick Dockery of Sacred Heart School in DeSoto County spelled "moraine" in the 36th round for the Mid-South title.
