It started as a store specializing in "relaxation" products and services, and turned into one of Memphis' perennially great music retailers, record labels and a hub for local bands. And this weekend, Shangri-La Records will mark its 20th anniversary with a series of in-store shows and a concert at the Hi-Tone Caf.

Way back in March of 1989, when he opened up his store at 1916 Madison, Sherman Wilmott had an idea - but it wasn't about music.
