The word "brilliant" is too often loosely applied to images and ideas with little shine. Properly, the adjective should be reserved for visually scintillating material - such as real diamonds and American brilliant cut glass.
"Brilliant by Design: Masterpieces of American Cut Glass, 1880- 1915," opening Sunday at Dixon Gallery and Gardens, brings together around 175 examples of this country's best and brightest from regional collections.
