Summary


When I was growing up, the 400 block of West Second Street in Clarksdale, Miss., knew how to celebrate Christmas. Neighbors on both sides of the street got together to decorate their yards in a theme (a personal favorite was the year it snowed on the large Nativity shadow boxes in each yard) and Christmas Eve became a roving block party.

Everyone eventually ended up at the Sullivan home for homemade soup - some before evening church services and some after. And on Christmas Day, neighbors and friends trooped to the Wests' for eggnog.
