Thirty-three years ago, Frank Tisdale (who died in 2003) created a dipping sauce for shrimp for his family.
Soon they were putting the sauce on hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken and pork. The family loved it, but he wanted to keep his sauce recipe a secret. Since it wasn't exactly a seafood sauce nor a barbecue sauce, he called it Secret Sauce. One of his nephews, Nathan Zumwalt, liked it so much his mother said Nathan would probably eat liver if he could cover it with Secret Sauce.
