Schools / Tasty Lesson in Geography

Summary

Students in Vicki Kinder's second-grade class at Oak Elementary can tell you just about anything you ever wanted to know about the Tennessee map - even the taste.

No joke, the students capped a week's worth of studying the Tennessee map by creating an edible version. They started with a color drawing of the map, including lakes, rivers, mountains and cities. Then, using a sheet of wax paper, the students traced the outline and features with a base of peanut butter dough and additions of icing for bodies of water, chocolate chips for mountains and M&Ms for the three largest cities in the state. What a fun and delicious way to learn map skills.
