The fourth annual Ben Flanagan Freedom Scholarship, in the amount of $500, has been awarded to Sabrina Swatzyna, daughter of Mary Dee Swatzyna and Roman Swatzyna of Hernando. Sabrina is a graduate of Gateway Christian Schools and has also attended Hernando High School and Magnolia Heights School. She will continue her education at Northwest Mississippi Community College and plans to become a diagnostic medical stenographer. Sabrina also hopes to compete on the rodeo team while at Northwest.

The Ben Flanagan Freedom Scholarship was founded by the Hernando Main Street Chamber of Commerce, the Hernando Rotary Club, and the DeSoto County Foundation for Excellence in Education, Inc. in 2005, in memory of Ben Flanagan.
