WASHINGTON - A little more than a year ago, Memphis and the Mid- South were briefly the intense focus of national attention when men from Bells, Tenn., and West Helena, Ark., were arrested for an alleged conspiracy to assassinate President Barack Obama.

Earlier this month, while Daniel Cowart and Paul Schlesselman remained in jail awaiting trial on perhaps the most overt expression of anti-Obama sentiment, two reports were released suggesting a growing fear of right-wing or bias-motivated violence.
