Summary

At the Greenlaw Community Center boys and girls enjoy the first community skateboard mini ramp in Memphis, which opened on Feb. 27. It was constructed by volunteers from Skatelife Memphis and Memphis Athletic Ministries, using $2,000 in local donations and a $2,500 grant from Nike. Fourteen sets of pads, helmets and skateboards have also been donated to the facility for community use.

Memphis also is in the running to get a $250,000 grant from Pepsi to build an 8,000-square-foot skatepark in Binghamton, similar to one shown in a rendering of the Venice Beach Skatepark in California. If you'd like to support that effort to create more positive, healthy outlets for young people in Memphis, go to refresheverything.com/skatelifememphis and vote daily through the end of April. Future generations are counting on us.
