A survey of building permits for new homes issued so far this year in DeSoto County shows some increases over the same year-ago period, sparking optimism that here's the long-awaited bounce from the industry bottom.

"You're not going to see the spikes that we've recorded in previous years, but I think they do" show a bottoming out for the county as a whole, Donnie Chambliss, Southaven Realtor and past president of the North Mississippi Association of Home Builders, said Friday.
