MINNEAPOLIS - Money that would have compensated Northwest Airlines flight attendants for some of their pay cuts is on hold while their union investigates allegations of problems with the voting on a new contract.

The vote on the new contract ended May 29, two days before Northwest exited bankruptcy. The airline's 8,100 flight attendants approved the contract by just 104 votes. Their approval cleared the way for each to receive roughly $15,000 by June 18. The agreement between the airline essentially turned workers into creditors in exchange for the pay cuts, and the money came from the sale of their claim against the airline.
