Nakashima Furniture Set Sold for $560,500

Summary


Six pieces of furniture designed by George Nakashima, one of the most influential midcentury American furniture designers and craftsmen, fetched $560,500 at Sotheby's auction house in New York on June 19.

Owned by International Paper, the office furniture had been kept in storage for 20 years, after the company moved to Memphis in 1987 from New York. The pieces had been purchased in the early 1980s by the company's then-chairman Edwin Gee for his office.
