By late 2004, my wife and I were downsized from our corporate jobs in Atlanta. Coincidentally, our house, on the market for four months, sold the day after I was downsized.

After a fruitless job hunt, we reviewed our options. It was too early to retire, but we could take a sabbatical. We had talked about traveling the country in a motor home after we retired; the opportunity was presenting itself early.
