The Memphis Board of Education received an update Monday night on the district's work to improve the standing of 15 city schools that have failed to meet state performance standards for six years.

Memphis City Schools administrators have been working to improve the schools since receiving specific directives from the Tennessee Department of Education in July on how to operate the schools and in some cases, replace staff members who were deemed ineffective.
