Mcwherter Fires Ad Volley at Haslam

NASHVILLE - Democrat Mike McWherter began airing his first statewide TV ads in weeks on Thursday, including one charging that rival Bill Haslam's "company price-gouged at the pump, and imports oil from socialist Venezuela."

The McWherter for governor campaign said it based the Venezuela charge on federal government reports filed by Marathon Oil showing it bought crude oil from the South American nation, plus a 2008 Marathon press release noting that Marathon is a major supplier of fuel to Pilot Travel Centers, the Knoxville-based chain of which Haslam's family is majority owner.
