I love using lavender in cooking. I've mentioned it several times in columns, but I was surprised to realize that I have never given you a main-course recipe using it.

If you are planting your herb garden right about now, add some lavender to the mix. For culinary purposes, I like the English lavender variety. It grows well in full sun and warm soil. Once established, it tolerates drought well. If the winter isn't too harsh, it will probably even come back next year. As a bonus, it's a very attractive plant.
