When defending Stanford St. Jude Championship winner Woody Austin stopped by Memphis' Idlewild Elementary School recently to help with golf instruction for the fourth-grade physical education class, it was the equivalent of having a Pulitzer Prize winner lead story time, or a famed artist teaching the finer points of painting in art class.

Austin recognizes young children get far more out of learning the game of golf than just how to hit a small white ball into a cup, and it is the main reason for the growth in popularity of The First Tee National School Program.
