JACKSON - The U.S. Supreme Court has denied a petition from a Meridian man who wanted a new trial on claims that a woman recanted her testimony that he raped her.

The Supreme Court Tuesday upheld a Mississippi federal court decision in 2008 in which James Rushing Jr. was denied a certificate of appealability. In COAs, an inmate argues that he has found new evidence - or a possible constitutional issue - that could persuade a court to order a new trial.
