NASHVILLE - State senators on Thursday sent Gov. Phil Bredesen legislation that names part of Interstate 40 in Shelby County for renowned singer and musician Isaac Hayes.

By a 31-0 vote, senators approved naming a stretch of the highway that runs west from the Fayette-Shelby County line to the intersection with Sam Cooper Boulevard in Shelby County the Isaac Hayes Memorial Highway. The governor is expected to sign the measure.
