NASHVILLE - Gov.-elect Bill Haslam on Friday named another East Tennessean to a top position in his incoming administration: five- term Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey of Chattanooga as deputy to the governor and chief of staff.

Ramsey, 67, a Republican, served in the state legislature from 1972 through 1976 and later as Hamilton County's assessor of property from 1980 to 1994, when he was first elected county executive, a position renamed county mayor during his 16-year tenure. He was re-elected to a fifth term in August, but said he will resign effective Jan. 11, four days before the new governor's inauguration.
