Faith in Action / Ymca Clothing Drive Benefits Haiti

Summary

YMCA branches recently donated more than 700 items of clothing for the people of Haiti. Charles Tilly, his daughter, and his grandsons, who are Y members and parishioners at St. Peter Catholic Church in Downtown Memphis, spearheaded the drive.

Bronwyn Stamps, director at the Sweeney YMCA, suggested to Tilly that the YMCA could help his family with collecting items. The YMCA had staff apparel that was no longer of use because of the organization's new branding campaign, which includes all new colors and logos for Y clothing. The organization's nine branches collected shirts, jackets and sweaters and members also donated their own items for the drive.
