Rolling with the punches of corporate wastewater treatment, the DeSoto Regional Utility Authority board approved shifting operators at two aging plants serving the county's western area after contractor SouthWest Water said it was bailing out.

Wednesday's emergency action followed a sudden announcement from SouthWest Water that it was "getting out of the treatment business in Mississippi," said utility board president B.J. Page. "I understand everybody is either being transferred out or being let go."
