The good news on the cleaner-energy front: The state of Tennessee will offer a $2,500 rebate on the first 1,000 all-electric Nissan Leaf cars purchased in Tennessee, Gov. Phil Bredesen said Wednesday.

The bad news: Although Tennessee is one of only five states selected last year for initial installation of the system of charging stations necessary to power the electric vehicles when traveling away from home, Memphis and all of West Tennessee are excluded from the locations also announced Wednesday.
