Responding to the steep rise in bankruptcy filings nationwide, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill written by U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., that increases the number of bankruptcy judges, adding one to the Memphis bankruptcy court. The vote was 345 to 5.
The bill creates 13 bankruptcy judgeships, including the one for Memphis, and converts 22 temporary judgeships into permanent positions. Cohen is the chairman of the subcommittee on commercial and administrative law that deals with bankruptcy issues.See the full content of this document
