Researchers have begun enrolling Memphis-area patients in a clinical trial on a drug that appears to offer the best hope yet for treating a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer that's most common among African-American women.

The Nashville-based Sarah Cannon Research Institute is conducting the trial of the use of ixabepilone, a drug with the trade name Ixempra, to treat "triple-negative" breast cancer.
