Summer Camp Builds On Math Skills -- 'If I Had a Hammer' Turns Students Into Carpenters

Students crowd around tables scattered with blueprints. With their pencils and rulers, they measure and make little marks on papers, occasionally stopping to ask, "How long do we want the hallway to be?"

These students are participating in the "If I Had a Hammer" program that uses math skills to help the students design and build an 11-by-8-foot house the entire class can fit in. It started June 9 and ends June 30.
