Not since the institution of fingernails upon chalkboard has there been a sound quite like the first 10 minutes of the musical "Legally Blonde," running through Sunday at the Orpheum theater.

It's made by a giggly gaggle of sorority girls singing "Oh my god, oh my god you guys!" while dancing like no college chicks I ever knew, aflutter with the hysterical zeal of children at a slumber party drinking Red Bull and practicing cheerleading poses. To a dude in his mid-30s, the opening number grates to the bone.
