DeSoto County had several outstanding band students participating in Drum Corps International 2011 with Music City Drum and Bugle Corps from Nashville . Each student auditioned for a position in December 2010 and attended weekend training camps from January to May. Two weeks of training were also held in June and July.

A typical day at camp started at 7 a.m. with outdoor physical conditioning, including stretching, yoga and running. Training included music block instruction, visual block, breathing block, dance lessons and ensemble practice working on field drill sets every day until 9 p.m. Late evening hours were spent perfecting musical performance with each section until lights out around 11 p.m.
