On Oct. 30, Lausanne's team won first place in the robotics competition as well as the "Most Robost Robot" award at the BEST Robotics (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) competition. This event, sponsored by Texas Instruments and hosted at Mississippi State University, attracted 15 teams from three states.

Using only materials authorized by the competition, Lausanne students built a robot from plywood and PVC pipes and wrote a program to run the microcomputer and motors. An oral presentation, decorated booth, and a marketing campaign for the robot also were part of the competition.
