Achievements - Hutchison Senior Headed to West Point

Summary

Hutchison senior Virginia Schaefer has been accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point. She will be a cadet in the 2013 Class and join the Long Gray Line which has included Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, George S. Patton, Omar Bradley, Douglas MacArthur, Dwight Eisenhower and Norman Schwarzkopf.

Lt. Col. Enrico Clausi presented Virginia with her acceptance certificate during Upper School Convocation on Feb. 17. The application process was extensive. Schaefer started applying to West Point in January of her junior year, requesting a nomination for the academy from Rep. Steve Cohen and Sen. Lamar Alexander. After applying, she had to demonstrate physical abilities which included doing a one-handed basketball throw, a 40-foot sprint, pushups, sit- ups, chin-ups and a one-mile run. The physical part was important to her because she had been told many applicants who apply to the academy can get a nomination and an appointment, but they cannot pass their physical and cannot enroll.
